Helen Smith’s practice is influenced by a formal, minimalist view-point with simplicity of form and geometric abstraction generally contributing to the outcome. Oil on canvas paintings, quite often derived from an interest in social and cultural systems and large-scale wall works, form the basis for her enquiry.
What does Hatched mean to you?’
It was tremendous to be included in Hatched in 2001 as it placed my work in the context of what was happening in universities and art colleges at the time. A great entry point for any graduate.
